Understanding Herpes Transmission: Even When You Do Everything "Right"

Just your reminder that you can do everything “right” and still get herpes.

Herpes doesn’t make you a “bad” person or mean that you’ve done something wrong.

It’s not a relationship punishment or punishment for exploring pleasure, either.

The reality is that the only way to avoid STIs all together is to abstain from s-x with others.

Even with barriers, like cndoms, there is always a chance of transmission.

Even though you’ve been tested and talked about your results with your partners, there is a chance of transmission.

Even if your partner lets you know they have herpes and is using antivirals, there is still a chance of transmission.

If you are dating and having s-x, there is always going to be a chance of STI transmission. Just any other cold or virus you may get from contact with other humans - except that STIs hold a stigma and judgment due to their location and method of transmission.

Read this again: a virus or infection doesn’t mean you are a bad person.
