Survey Reveals 20% of Americans Misunderstand STI Testing Needs
A new survey by The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center revealed that 1 in 5 US Americans believe they need to be tested for STIs *only* if they experience symptoms.
That means 20% of people aren’t getting regular STI screenings, and aren’t practicing safer s-x.
Here’s your friendly reminder that STIs aren’t always obvious, and are often asymptomatic. This likely goes against what many were taught in their health classrooms.
It’s great that 4 out of 5 US Americans realize that they DO need to be testing even without symptoms, but there’s still work to be done as STI rates continue to rise.
Getting tested is an amazing first step, and one that can be filled with fear due to the stigma of testing positive; but in order to reduce the potential for transmission of STIs and truly practice safer s-x with our dates and partners, we need to communicate our results and ask about their results, too 😇
