Positive Singles Review: A Critical Look at STI-Exclusive Dating Apps

I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. PS is BS.

Going through Positive Singles’ (PS) website was just as cringe-worthy as I anticipated. Note: I do not support or condone Positive Singles or any STI-exclusive dating app. This information is shared so others can make informed decisions about dating apps they choose.

CW: for anyone struggling with an STI diagnosis, some language may be triggering to read.

Tagline: “Stay positive! Find love, support, and hope!” PS attempts to take a spin on a “positive” diagnosis with its tagline, but it does not match its intention.

Target Audience: exclusively built for those living with STIs/STDs. PS only has selections for “man, woman, and couple.” It is not LGBTQ friendly.

User Stats: Over 2,373,100 users, and 60,000 “success stories.” There are “over 1 million STD singles” in the US (🤮I hate all of their language, it clearly was not reviewed through a lens of sex positivity/removing stigma)

PS claims to have “dating advisors” (what their credentials are, I’ll never know) and “counselors” (again, unsure of qualifications).

One of the biggest red flags for me is their lack of community guidelines. I literally had to go into their Ts&Cs to find this sad statement, “Please exercise common sense and prudent judgement in your interactions with others in all of your online and offline activities.” There is also zero mention of what happens when you report users.

Safety guidelines: and yet ANOTHER red flag, “These are the most comprehensive dating tips in the world.” PS has a 6+ page list of “tips,” many the same subject, from users. There is zero review process outlined.

I have never and will never support PS or other STI exclusive dating apps. Going through PS’ materials was infuriating. I think community is wonderful and necessary, but PS is unhinged. PS cannot claim to be a safe space for people with STIs when it does not prioritize its users’ safety or reliability of information shared. You are worth SO MUCH MORE than this joke of an app promises you.

PS, Positive Singles, PLEASE stop emailing me to partner with you!!!
