Exploring Early Sexual Education: Impact of Family Dynamics on Relationships and Sexuality

Before the informal education of media and (sometimes) more formal sex education classes, our first exposure to sex and relationships originated from our families.

Your family doesn’t have to be biological, nuclear, or “traditional” in any way. What matters is how they modeled relationships and shaped sexuality.

Was sex a bad or dirty word? Was affection encouraged or enforced without consent? Was consent taught? Was their shame around discussing sexuality or specific body parts? We’re names for penis and vulva coded?

These experiences shape us. Our experiences shape us.
