Debunking Herpes Myths: Facts You Need to Know

If you watched yesterday’s video post, you’ll recall that my research led to the discovery that one of the herpes coaches is a proponent of anti-vaccination.

This person charges thousands of dollars to coach folks related to their herpes diagnosis. Yet, this person also believes that simply being in the same space (read: breathing the same air) as folks who are vaccinated against COVID lead to a shift of her menstrual cycle.

It’s simply not true. In April, the @nytimes released an article that discussed this very topic entitled, “No, other people’s COVID vaccines can’t disrupt your menstrual cycle.” In the article, Emily Martin, an infectious disease epidemiologist states, “Transferring anything from the vaccine from one person to another is not possible. It’s just not biologically possible.” As you might suspect, the conspiracy stemmed from social media.

Let me be clear: Folks who ARE vaccinated against COVID have reported changes in their menstrual cycles, however, no study specifically reviewed the impact of COVID vaccinations on menstruation. @drheatherirobundamdshared a great post that delves further into COVID vaccinations and their impact on menstruation (I will reshare to my story). Dr. Irobunda’s post further explains how it’s logical that the vaccination itself could and would cause changes to one’s cycle since it induces an immune response. But that it would likely return to normal.

Yes, if someone who menstruates receives the vaccine, their cycle might shift. But being simply vaccinated will not impact the cycle’s of others who have not received the vaccine.

Anyone who believes that someone’s vaccination status could impact their cycle is not equipped with the knowledge necessary to be discussing any virus or disease—including herpes. With this logic, that’s akin to saying that people with herpes transmit the virus through air—which is untrue.
