The Power of Comprehensive Sex Ed: How It Transforms Our Understanding and Relationships
Comprehensive s-x education has always been about more than barriers and birth control. Comprehensive s-x ed can positively impact our experiences and relationships.
May is #SexEdForAllMonth and it’s another moment in time to demonstrate the impact and power of knowledge when it comes to our bodies, relationships, and advocacy.
This post is inspired by one of my favorite accounts, @lainey.molnar 💜
How does it feel to be diagnosed with herpes? Everyone will have a different experience depending on different layers of self (culture, religion, family dynamics, health class, etc.). This image focuses on the impact of comprehensive s-x education.
The left side depicts some common statements and feelings of someone who did NOT receive comprehensive education:
🌧️ “No one will want me”
🌧️ “I’m ashamed of myself”
🌧️ “I feel so alone”
🌧️ “I can never date again”
The right side depicts someone who DID receive comprehensive education:
💐 “I am not a bad person”
💐 “I will move forward”
💐 “I’m still me”
💐 “I deserve pleasure”
This is a small example of how comprehensive s-x education can impact our lives (especially considering most of us will encounter an STI in our adult lives).
One of the reasons I became a s-x educator is because of the lack of information I had about my body and the shame I spent YEARS of unlearning.
I wholeheartedly believe comprehensive s-x education can and does change lives, and I am happy to be a part of this movement.
