The Case for Comprehensive Sex Education: Embracing Safer Sex Practices

In 2018, the US spent $16 billion dollars on direct medical costs related to STIs (@cdcgov & @ncsddc). Avoidance of STIs is not only NOT the answer, it’s impossible.

This is why we need comprehensive sex education. To teach folks of all ages to engage in safer sex. To break down safer sex as what one does with and for oneself (i.e. regular STI screenings as self-care) and their partners (discussions of applicable barrier methods, test results, etc.). To navigate discordant relationships and how to approach discomfort from a loving and mindful approach, rather than through denial, fear, and avoidance.
