Navigating Healthcare: The Impact of Structural Gendered Racism on Black American Women with Herpes Simplex Virus

I am very much excited to share this research paper from Stephanie I. V. Cazeau-Bandoo and Ivy K. Ho entitled, “The Role of Structural Gendered Racism in Effective Healthcare Utilization among Black American Women with Herpes Simplex Virus.” This is a very important, very needed, and long overdue piece of literature as it relates to genital herpes and its stigma.

The paper gives a brief overview of herpes, but focuses more on what it means to be a Black woman in US America navigating the healthcare system with genital herpes.

I will continue to share more this week, but I wanted to provide a brief introduction, and a spark of hope for the future of research at the intersection of race, gender, healthcare, and herpes.
