The Role of Knowledge in Reducing Herpes Transmission: Insights from Recent Research

I recently shared research that supports the claim that engaging intimately with those who know their HSV status offers less chance for transmission.

Transmission often carries assumptions that further contribute to individuals’ experiences of their diagnoses and self-concepts.

I want to highlight that not all transmissions are ill-intended, and many occur through a simple lack of knowledge. This mostly stems from a poor education experience and internalizing similar attitudes of shame, but I want to highlight specific instances where people just don’t know. Whether that’s through an asymptomatic status or failure of our education system. These are also reasons that those in monogamous partnerships may receive an HSV diagnosis without infidelity.
