WHO Released a New Report that Shows Condom Use is Declining
‼️adolescent condom use is decline across the globe‼️
The World Health Organization released the results of a new, international report in collaboration with the Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children (HBSC).
This report is from 2021/2022 and was conducted across Europe, Central Asia, and Canada.
Researchers note the most significant observation is declining condom usage, which is especially concerning amidst rising STI rates.
There are a lot of interesting takeaways, but here are the ones specifically related to condom usage:
‼️About 1/3 of adolescents (30% of boys and 36% of girls) did NOT use a condom the last time they had sex
‼️9% of boys and 7% of girls reported NOT knowing if they or their partner used a condom
📈Highest Condom Use: For girls - Serbia (81%) and the Republic of Moldova (75%); For boys - highest in Switzerland (77%)
📈Lowest Condom Use: For girls - Albania (24%); For boys - Sweden (43%)
Though these behaviors are self-reported, there is increasing concern around the lack of awareness of condom usage. Further necessitating the need for more comprehensive health education.
