The Impact of Censorship on Sex Educators: Why Your Support Matters
Thank you to everyone who engaged with yesterday’s post about how censorship is impacting sex educators. A special thank you to those who commented and shared their experiences and the important work they’re doing 🫶🏻
I know how disheartening it feels when you put so much effort into a post - in addition to trying to make sure it abides by the latest guidelines - only for it to flop or appear invisible.
Building community is hard. After a while, this can began to impact our self-worth, confidence, and further impact how we show up here.
We all know that not every post is going to hit, or be as groundbreaking as others, but this is more than that.
An important reminder for us all - you are not the likes you receive on social media. Your self-worth and what you offer this world are not connected to how many followers you have or how many people viewed your story.
You are more than the feedback social media provides.
As platforms continue to restrict educators, please continue supporting us as we expand our work to other platforms. If you’ve been positively impacted by our free posts on Instagram, or you like learning from us, please connect with us elsewhere. It’s a very real fear that our presence may slowly (or suddenly) disappear - for many, this is how they reach and find their clients. Thus, it directly impacts their income and stability.
Sex education is a social justice issue, and by limiting educators’ efforts and reach, Meta and other networks are telling you exactly where they stand.
