JD Vance, Childfree Women, and the Politics of Procreation

🚨NEW ESSAY—The New War on Childfree Women: JD Vance and the Politics of Procreation

When I saw the full transcript of his speech at the March for Life last Friday, I felt an immediate sense of fear. The word that stood out most to me? “Obligation.”

Only the second VP to address the March for Life (following Pence), Vance said this: “Our society has failed to recognize the obligation that one generation has to another is a core part of living in a society to begin with. So let me say, very simply, I want more babies in the United States of America.”

This isn’t just about abortion—his comments hint at national control.

Vance hasn’t been shy on his opinions of “childless cat ladies.” From calling us “sociopathic” to claiming teachers without children “disturb” him. What scares me most about his opinions is what’s not said aloud as explicitly— like his words at the rally.

For someone who claims to be pro-family, he certainly isn’t addressing many parents’ top stressors: school safety. According to a 2023 Gallup survey, 74% of parents cite fear of school shootings as a major source of stress.

Vance dismissed them as a “fact of life” and advocating for more security.

What’s particularly dangerous about Vance is how he packages his control as care and concern—when we see otherwise.

Last year, Russia passed a bill outlawing “childfree propaganda” to increase birth rates and promote traditional family values. When I heard his speech, I had to wonder… is the U.S. next?
