New Mexico Bill SB 132: Improving Access to STI Screenings and Care

Extra, extra! 📰

A bill in New Mexico is headed to the Senate. The bill, SB 132, aims to “eliminate co-pays and cost sharing to remove financial barriers” related to seeking STI screenings.

In reading the bill, it also reiterates that “preventative care or treatment of sexually transmitted infections shall not be conditioned upon the gender identity of the insured.”

The bill’s goal is to, ultimately, reduce the amount of STIs by widening treatment accessibility and availability. If enacted, the bill would go into effect in January 2024.
