Unlearning STI Stigma and Sexual Shame: A Journey of Transformation

The point between our sex (mid)education and our desire for truth is where transformation occurs. Somewhere between the old and new, past and future, we find the present.

Change isn’t easy to see. Sometimes we can only bear witness to change by looking at our past, especially when we’re reflecting upon our internal self.

This small point on our personal continuum is where significant transformation takes place.

It’s not just about unlearning to shed layers of STI stigma, it’s sexual shame. It’s the fear of telling our partners what works (and what doesn’t). It’s seeing STI screening as an act of self-care, rather than a fearful ritual.

STI stigma is a puzzle piece to a larger picture of sexual shame. Where are you in your unlearning?
