Unlocking Pleasure: Building Your Sexual Self-Care Practice

A few months ago, I recorded a podcast episode with @thebedside. Tatiana, The Bedside’s founder and host, inquired about my pleasure practice. It was a question that I did not immediately have an answer for at the time. My practice was there, I just wasn’t making a conscious effort to preserve it.

Tatiana’s pleasure practice question and subsequent post (Slide 2!), inspired a deeper, more focused reflection from my perspective. In this post, I’ve defined what I label as a sexual self-care practice.

A sexual self-care practice is a conscious care ritual and/or routine which prioritizes and preserves balance and intimacy (physical, mental, and emotional) within the self; a routine which supports one’s pleasure with self; while the goal may be to support overall sexual self-care, the routine does not need to be explicit in nature or exclusive to sexual behaviors.

Tatiana’s post does a great job showing the mental and sexual health overlap, as well as offering more broad examples for folks who may be struggling to recognize or create a sexual self-care practice (sleep, for example).

What are some aspects of your sexual self-care and/or pleasure practice?
